Caterpillar acquire Bitelli
CATERPILLAR have acquired 100% of the capital stock of Italian-based Bitelli SpA, manufacturers of asphalt pavers, cold planers, compactors and other equipment for road construction and maintenance. The acquisition also includes all distribution and service agreements with Bitelli dealers worldwide. Neither party has released the terms of the deal.
Caterpillar say Bitelli's expertise in the asphalt paving and cold-planing sectors will be especially valuable to their growth in these areas.
Richard Cooper, president of Caterpillar Paving Products, said: 'Even though Bitelli manufacture some of the same types of equipment as Caterpillar, there are many models that represent enhancements and additions to our product line, so the fit is complementary and strategic.'
Bitelli's former managing director, Romolo Bitelli, added: 'We have built Bitelli into a strong and successful supplier of road construction equipment, but resources limited our ability to expand into some geographic areas. This acquisition will enhance Bitelli's growth opportunities.'
Bitelli employ 320 staff at four manufacturing facilities in Italy where they produce 41 models of pavers, planers, stabilizers and compaction equipment. Their machines are sold through a worldwide network of 64 dealers, distributors and branch offices.
