Cartem relocation complete

FOLLOWING the acquisition of bitumen handling equipment specialists Cartem by asphalt plant manufacturers Phoenix Transworld for an undisclosed sum in June this year, all of Cartem’s sales, service and manufacturing functions have now been relocated to Phoenix’s offices and manufacturing facility in Leicester.

Russ Sciville, director of Phoenix Transworld, said the acquisition of Cartem represented a significant investment that would substantially increase Phoenix’s product portfolio.

‘The decision to acquire Cartem and its 50 years’ experience in the manufacture of spraying, surface dressing and bitumen handling and storage systems was logical, as it provides significant benefits for both organizations. Cartem’s first-quarter sales were over £700,000 and simultaneous investment is taking place to develop even more innovative and energy-efficient equipment,’ said Mr Sciville.

Development of high-efficiency bitumen storage systems with renewable energy to reduce operating costs as well as mobile and static bunded road transporters are two priority developments currently being completed. In addition, redevelopment of Cartem’s bitumen spraying equipment is also planned and a new hydraulic spray bar using the successful Ashurst spray nozzle along with a fully automatic computer-based bitumen metering system is currently being reviewed.

‘We feel the synergies between both companies offer exciting opportunities for the future, in addition to allowing us the opportunity to offer a better service,’ added Mr Sciville.
