Bulk coal delivery

Cumnock-based T. French & Son (Earthwork) Ltd, the first UK contractors to have homologated Volvo articulated dumptrucks for coal-handling duties, have taken delivery of a further four A35D haulers bringing their fleet of Volvo trucks to a total of 40.

Since the modifications and trials of their original A35D units four years ago, French & Son have developed and fine-tuned the specification of the truck body. This has resulted in the latest haulers benefiting from extended and enlarged bodies with a potential volume of 35m3. Full-height rear tailgates with an hydraulic locking system and 1m side extensions are the main features of this latest design.

French & Son’s new haulers are all being used on various opencast coal sites in the Drumfries and Ayrshire areas.
