Breedon win best highways product award

Company’s specialist Polymer Plus asphalt picks up Highway Industry Product of the Year award

BREEDON Aggregates have won the coveted award for Highway Industry Product of the Year in the ‘Highways’ magazine Excellence Awards 2011, which were held on 12 October at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington.

The award, sponsored this year by Shell Bitumen, is given to an organization whose vision, belief and determination have brought a product to market which has initiated a ‘change of thought’ approach or technique and has thereby influenced the sustainability agenda and/or generated efficiency savings.

It was presented to Breedon Aggregates for their specialist Polymer Plus asphalt, which the judges described as ‘a product developed from local resources, demonstrating innovation, to provide extended pavement life where used’. 

Breedon Polymer Plus is a 6mm thin-surfacing system designed to give durability and skid resistance on busy roundabouts and other high-stress areas.

Commenting on the award, Alan Mackenzie, chief executive of Breedon Aggregates Scotland, said: ‘It’s fantastic to have our product recognized with such a prestigious award. Breedon Polymer Plus is just one of an extensive range of specialist asphalts which we believe are fundamentally changing the way we surface our roads in the UK.’
