Biodiversity for minerals operators – what does it mean?
NAM event to discuss key issues against a backdrop of UK obligations under European and UN targets
THIS Nature After Minerals (NAM) event will provide an opportunity for a heads-together in a supportive environment to question, clarify and discuss the issues surrounding biodiversity and what exactly it means, against the backdrop of the UK’s obligations under European and United Nations targets to reverse its decline by 2020.
While recognizing the great strides the minerals industry is already making in enhancing biodiversity at sites across the country, questions may still remain, especially for those new to the industry.
The event’s morning session will feature presentations from a variety of speakers from NAM, industry, RSPB and other conservation organizations. The afternoon session will involve a visit to the RSPB’s Middleton Lakes nature reserve (formerly a Hanson site) to witness a classic example of a mineral site restored for nature and people.
The event will take place on Wednesday 13 June 2012 at The Recreation Room, Middleton, Tamworth, Staffordshire. For further information contact Debra Royal, NAM events & communications officer, on tel: (01767) 693588; email: debra.royal@rspb.org.uk; or visit: www.afterminerals.com
