Bell meet Irish challenge

Bell Equipment's Irish dealers, Embankment Machinery Sales, have delivered a Bell B40C articulated dumptruck to L. Behan & Sons' quarry at Rathcoole in Co. Dublin.

The dumptruck was delivered to the site for demonstration purposes early last year, prior to which the quarry was using a fleet of four rigid tipper trucks for all their haulage work. The company were so pleased with the performance of the B40C that it never left the site.

The machine operates 12h a day, six days a week, in rugged and demanding conditions. It is used to haul rock from the quarry face to the primary crusher, with average haulage distances of 400m, and with all laden hauls being up a steep ramp. The B40C is also used to haul overburden.

Laurence Behan comments: 'The Bell B40C, which completes between 50 and 60 haul cycles each day, is particularly impressive operating in the wet when the underfoot conditions are challenging. The excellent traction of the machine allows it to handle loads in these demanding conditions, in which normal rigid tipper trucks could not operate.

'The B40C, which has a utilisation of around 95%, has provided a mechanical availability in excess of 95%, and our operators have given positive feedback on the machine's cab comfort and handling ability.'
