Barr Quarries choose Terex Finlay

As part of a major investment programme to improve quarry operations across their sites, Barr Quarries have invested in four new mobile screens from Terex Finlay.

Among the new additions is the 883 designed to work as an aggregate screener (after primary crushing), or on its own as a frontline screening machine. Although primarily developed for the recycling industry, Barr Quarries are using the 883 unit to process rock, overburden and other materials that require the use of a highly productive, heavy-duty ‘scalping’ in line screener.

Processing at a rate of up to 500 tonnes/h, a key feature of the 883 is its adaptability, as different types of screening media, such as tines, bofar bars, punch plates and meshes, can be fitted in various sizes and configurations on the machine.

The mobile screen also includes: a Hardox steel apron feeder, which is said to handle all feed sources with ease; a two-deck 4,800mm x 1,500mm heavy-duty vibrating screen, which can be fitted with meshes, a punch plate or cascade fingers; long stockpile conveyors; and a fully integrated catwalk.

Other mobile screening equipment purchased by Barr Quarries include two new Terex Finlay 683 Supertraks, each featuring a two-deck screenbox allowing maximum utility of the 3m x 1.52m bottom deck.

One unit is being used to support Barr’s primary crushing line, while the other screen is working in conjunction with a recently purchased 694 Supertrak – a three-deck screener with a 6.1m x 1.52m top deck and 4.88m x 1.52m middle and bottom decks.

All the machines are currently working at Barr’s Tincornhill Quarry, and have proved to be significant additions to the operator’s existing fleet. Some of the screening units have been fitted with dust covers on the main line belts and hoppers, ensuring processing continues regardless of the weather conditions.
