Aggregate Industries host successful safety day

OVER 100 delegates from the quarrying sector attended an interactive safety day in June at Lancashire’s Holme Park Quarry.

"The one–day event, which was hosted by Aggregate Industries, in conjunction with local health and safety inspector Mike Tetley, on behalf of the Lancashire branch of the Institute of Quarrying, attracted employees from major quarrying companies and smaller independent firms alike."

"At the event, all levels from company directors to fitters and operatives took part in a hands-on approach to raising safety awareness. Topics ranged from ear protection and ladder safety to open edge protection, workshop safety, hazard spotting, and safe use and selection of mobile access platforms."

"This year’s event built on the success of the previous safety day held in 2000, by encouraging delegates to become involved in fault finding. Prizes were awarded for those who scored highly."

Aggregate Industries’ area operations manager Tom Wright said: ‘This year’s event was based largely around relevant health and safety topics that are being targeted by the inspectorate. The day was very successful and those who attended can now return to their companies and help raise the profile of health and safety in their workplaces.’
