Aggregate Industries acquire Hardaway Concrete

AGGREGATE Industries have acquired the entire issued capital of Hardaway Concrete Co. Inc. and Hardaway Concrete Co. Upstate Inc. The Hardaway companies are leading suppliers of ready-mixed concrete for residential, commercial, transportation and speciality construction projects in the Columbia and Greenville, South Carolina markets.

Founded in 1948 with the acquisition of one plant in Columbia, the Hardaway business now employees over 170 people and operates 10 strategically placed ready-mixed concrete facilities, seven in Columbia and three in Greenville.

The business has a delivery fleet of 82 truckmixers and also operates two mobile plants that can be assembled on site to serve large projects outside the company’s primary markets. In 2006 Hardaway supplied over 500,000 cubic yards of ready-mixed concrete.

Page Morris, president and co-CEO, and Channing Joye, treasurer and also co-CEO, will continue to provide management services to the business following completion, and the business will continue to be managed by the existing management team.

Commenting on the acquisition, Bill Bolsover, chief executive of Aggregate Industries, said: ‘I am delighted that we have been given the opportunity to acquire the Hardaway businesses. They are very well managed and operated and provide us with a footprint in a very attractive market in South Carolina that we are not currently active in.

‘The values that Page and Channing have instilled in the business, particularly in areas such as safety and environmental management, complement the values of Aggregate Industries and I am very pleased that they will continue to have an involvement in the business.’
