ADAS launch UK’s first ecological e-commerce website

THE UK’s first ecological e-commerce website, www.online-ecosurvey.co.uk, has been launched this week by ADAS, the UK’s largest provider of environmental and rural solutions and policy advice.

The website allows a range of environmental services to be bought online and is targeted at the land and property development industry, as well as engineers, architects, planners and surveyors.

Environmental issues posed by species such as bats, lizards and newts can create major problems for land development and engineering projects, particularly at this time of year, with ADAS estimating the annual cost to UK developers at around £15 million.

Martin Buckland, ADAS’s head of sustainable land management, commented: ‘Being aware of potential environmental issues early on in any development is not only a legal requirement, but can prevent surprise costs and delays. For instance, if long-eared bats are discovered, planning modifications could be required, significantly delaying a project, while great crested newts on a building site could cost a developer in the region of £80,000 to relocate.

‘The launch of the online service represents a real break-through in the environmental industry. This will be the first UK website of its type, allowing customers to select and book an environmental survey at the click of a mouse.’

As well as survey work to identify potential problems, ADAS also work with customers to implement bespoke measures to mitigate environmental issues through their ‘Environmental Solutions Delivered’ (ESD) product.
