ABB help achieve energy-efficiency objectives for CRH

ABB provide process optimization solutions to CRH

ABB, specialists in power and automation technology, have won a contract from CRH Europe Materials to provide process optimization solutions for 12 of their concrete plants in Europe and the US.

As a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Cement Sustainability Initiative, CRH are committed to a set of objectives covering issues such as CO2 and climate protection, emission protection and reduced use of fuels and raw materials.

Currently, the data collection for calculating the required key performance indicators from the company’s plants is carried out individually and often manually. ABB’s proven cpmPlus Knowledge Manager software will help to automate this process and collect the information centrally from a regional server.

The software solution is designed to help customers in the cement and mineral products industries meet production, operational and quality objectives. It facilitates the extensive operation of collecting process and quality data from the plant in real time.

Users can then access this information in the form of meaningful reports, trends and analyses to help them to make key decisions on how to operate and optimize their processes. As the software solution is web-based, operators can access the information wherever and whenever they need it.

According to ABB, their long-standing relationship with CRH, together with in-depth knowledge in process automation and the delivery of proven concepts with other cement producers, were important factors in winning this contract.

Installation and commissioning of cpmPlus Knowledge Manager started in 2012 and will continue during 2013. The initial installation in three cement plants has already been completed.
