Mick George

Mick George gain RISQS accreditation to provide contracting and supply services to rail industry

MICK George Ltd, the Cambridgeshire-based construction business, have successfully been accredited on the Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS), previously known as Achillies Link-up.

Whilst the initiative is aimed at providing organizations with a platform to position themselves in front of the major rail contractors who dominate the industry, Mick George are no strangers to the majority of the influential players, having already proven their credentials on a sub-contracting basis across a number of other sectors.

The business, which predominantly operates within the East Anglia and East Midlands region, has outlined its intent in the new sector by expressing an interest in involvement within tender processes nationwide for the services in which it specializes.

Having accomplished RISQS accreditation after rigorous assessment and audit of various components, Mick George can now provide a wide range of complex services including earthworks, civils, demolition and remediation services, as well as waste management and aggregate and ready-mixed concrete supply.

All of these can be integrated alongside the company’s fully compliant ability to remove and dispose of all rail-associated debris, including contaminated soils and hazardous waste. Mick George are also licensed asbestos contractors.

Further instilling confidence, the company has actively invested in a number of external ‘safety systems’, including ‘Sentinal’ and the ‘Confidential Incident Reporting and Analysis System’, to support the new venture.

Operations director Dean Whitcombe, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his previous role as contracts director with Pryor Rail, will head up Mick George Rail.

Michael George, contracts director at Mick George Ltd, commented: ‘Whilst the business recognizes the huge potential within this new sector, it is a prospect that won’t faze us. We have progressed immensely in recent times and this is another step forward.

‘The contracting services that we will be looking to provide are our core provisions. We possess a variety of established skill sets across the business, including recent recruits from this sector who will undoubtedly be of benefit.

‘The [rail] industry is heavily regulated by the HSE when it comes to selecting suppliers, and rightly so. This is something that we embrace as it’s aligned with our ethos of providing a professional service, with the highest possible standards of safety for all our clients.’
