3D Laser Mapping unveil their ‘most advanced system’

Nottingham-based 3D Laser Mapping have launched what they claim is their most advanced laser profile measurement system to date – the Riegl LPM 321. The device uses laser beams to measure the position of objects and surfaces, recording up to 1,000 points/s with millimeter accuracy.

The robust yet lightweight Riegl LMP 321 is easy to use and includes an integrated Canon digital camera to capture images of the scene being surveyed. ‘This system will take laser scanning to a new dimension,’ said Dr Graham Hunter, managing director of 3D Laser Mapping. ‘With a range of 6km, it is one of the most advanced systems on the market and will open up new applications within the quarrying and mining sectors.’

The Riegl LMP 321 captures highly accurate and detailed measurements by transmitting optical pulses that are reflected from the surface to its integrated receiver unit. The data recorded by the laser scanner is suitable for automatic and semi-automatic processing, and can be used in conjunction with the company’s Site Monitor software package.

 

Dr Hunter continued: ‘SiteMonitor is a unique suite of software that has been developed to meet the demand for accurate and repeatable measurements of surfaces and slopes in hazardous and inhospitable environments. It captures movement in slope surfaces, providing detailed records of activities and improved safety monitoring.’
