200 Terex site dumpers for GAP Group

GAP places one of the largest dumper orders in the UK since 2008

Terex are supplying 200 site dumpers to leading UK plant hirer GAP Group in a major order worth more than £2 million.

This latest order, one of the largest placed for dumpers in the UK with any manufacturers for several years, continues the two company’s long-standing relationship and will see Terex supplying several models ranging from 1-9 tonnes in capacity. In addition to this dumper order GAP have ordered 40 rollers, breakers and trailers.

Ken Stewart, GAP’s Group procurement manager, said: ‘Terex offer a very wide range of dumpers from one-tonne high discharge to 10-tonne forward tip. Over the years, we have included all of the more popular sizes – 1 tonne, 3 tonnes, 6 tonnes, 9 tonnes and 10 tonnes, including forward and swivel tip variants into our hire fleet.  They have met all of our business requirements and are very well received both by our customers and our depots.’

In making his decision, Mr Stewart looks well beyond the purchase price. ‘The initial purchase price is obviously very important, but of even greater consideration is the total cost of ownership – and the Terex dumpers score well in this respect. Also, we only hold a very small parts inventory for the dumpers at our depots, which is a testament to the quality of the Terex product. And, if we do need a part, the Terex team, through their distribution network, goes out of their way to ensure we get it quickly,’ said Mr Stewart.

This latest order comes as a result of increasing customer demand. ‘Utilisation on our existing dumper fleet is consistently very high and we like to keep the average age of our fleet down. This gives GAP a competitive edge as our customers benefit from better fuel consumption, reduced emissions and efficiency gains the state-of-the-art Terex product,’ said Mr Stewart.

With headquarters in Glasgow, GAP Group are already taking delivery of the first Terex site dumpers for their order - it is expected that all 200 will be delivered by Christmas. The new Terex site dumpers will be allocated throughout GAP’s 60-strong depot network, which spreads across the UK from Inverness to St Austell.  Once in service, the new site dumpers will join GAP Group’s fleet, which also includes Terex single-drum roller breakers.
