16th Extractive Industry Geology Conference
HOSTED by the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Portsmouth University, this year’s Extractive Industry Geology Conference, which takes place from 8–11 September, will see a shift in emphasis from the minerals supply issues debated at Cardiff in 2008.
EIG 2010 will include hot topics relevant to today’s extractive industry geologist, such as energy and regulation, eg mining waste, plus the more traditional areas of resources/reserves and geohazards. Combined with innovation and military geology themes to capture the imagination, the conference organizers say the event promises something for all.
Field excursions to Brightling gypsum mine, in East Sussex, and Michelmersh quarry and brickworks, in Hampshire, as well as a tour of classic and applied geology sites on the Isle of Wight, will form part of the conference programme.
In addition, a reception with drinks will be held at Portsmouth’s spectacular Spinnaker Tower on the eve of the conference, and the conference dinner will take place aboard HMS Warrior in the historic dockyard.
Circulars, booking form and other EIG 2010 information are available on the conference website: http://www.eigconference.org
