Zero accidents at Hillhead 2001

FOLLOWING two separate incidents at Hillhead ’99, where two people sustained serious injuries during the post-show ‘break-down’ period, visitors and exhibitors attending this year’s show will have noticed even more emphasis than usual on health and safety.

With a number of new measures in place — increased first-aid and paramedic cover, improved warning signs around the site, risk assessments for exhibitors etc — the show’s organizers are pleased to report that this year’s event took place without incident and their target of zero reportable accidents was successfully achieved.

However, on a slightly negative note, the Health and Safety Executive pointed out that a number of mobile plant operators were not wearing their seat belts during plant demonstrations. The HSE has advised that in future seat belts must be worn at all times in all mobile plant and the organizers have agreed to address this matter prior to Hillhead 2003.
