Work around the clock

A trio of Komatsu WA470-5 wheel loaders are each clocking up 1431⁄2h per seven-day working week at Imerys Minerals’ St Austell operation. The site hydraulically mines kaolin which is then processed for the manufacture of a variety of products ranging from paper to washbasins. The WA470s are being used to transfer waste material to stockpiles at the extraction point and have to work virtually non-stop as both the mining and processing tasks operate on a round-the-clock basis.
