Weightlifter Bodies and PPG Fabrications under new ownership

Nigel Butler

New era dawns for companies as Grange Cross Ltd complete acquisition

TIPPER body and tipping trailer manufacturers Weightlifter Bodies and PPG Fabrications have been acquired by Grange Cross. Nigel Butler (pictured), formerly commercial director of Renault Trucks UK, takes over as managing director from industry stalwart Paul Weightman, who after 27 years at the helm of the group, is set for retirement.

Founded in the 1930s and located in Scunthorpe (Lincolnshire) and Wisbech (Cambridgeshire), Weightlifter Bodies and PPG Fabrications design and manufacture high-quality tipping bodies/trailers for the construction and recycling markets which, over the years, have become the benchmark for lightweight durability and reliability.

Commenting on the recent acquisition, Mr Butler said: ‘I am thrilled to be joining the Weightlifter and PPG teams.  Paul Weightman, with his directors, has done a fantastic job to consistently be a leading and well-respected supplier of truck tipping products. The construction, agriculture and recycling markets are dynamic and growing, bringing lots of opportunities to develop both product brands.

He continued: ‘I look forward to providing a secure future to our 87 staff at our two manufacturing sites by continuing to develop innovative solutions for our customers that add real value to their operations.’

Mr Weightman said: ‘I am very pleased to be able to secure the future for the business, the staff and customers.  Through innovation and build quality, we have been leaders in tipping trailers and bodies for many decades.  I am certain that under Nigel [Butler], the business will continue to grow and develop, maintaining its market leading position.’
