Waste away

"Waste-management specialists Shanks have invested £750,000 in the transformation of an old limestone quarry at Boughton, near Northampton, into a modern, fully enclosed waste-recycling facility. Complementing the district’s domestic waste-recycling operations, the Boughton site will concentrate on crushing and processing the mineral component of building waste under an agreement with former quarry operators Peter Bennie Ltd, who will market the recycled material back to the construction industry. Shanks expect the plant to process in excess of 100,000 tonnes of waste in its first 12 months of operation and are aiming to recycle a minimum of 80% of all incoming waste."
