Viapave gains HAPAS approval

RMC Aggregates’ latest thin-surfacing material Viapave has gained approval under the British Board of Agrément’s Highway Authorities Product Approval Scheme (HAPAS). The material is an evolution of RMC’s Viatex range and has been developed to meet the company’s drive to meet future demand for high-performance pavements.

"Viapave offers the same skid-resistance properties as Viatex but has the capability of achieving a high texture, even when 10mm nominal size aggregate is used. The texture depth of Viatex is reduced when layer thickness is less than 30mm due to its formulation, but Viapave retains its texture even when laid in layers as thin as 18mm. Developed six years ago, Viatex is formed using 14mm aggregate bound by penetration-grade bitumen reinforced with cellulose fibres. Viapave can use a smaller sized aggregate bound with a polymer-modified bitumen binder and can be laid as a surface course in thicknesses ranging from 18mm through to 50mm when 10mm aggregate is used, and from 30mm to 50mm with 14mm aggregate."
