TWS officially launch new AggWash 300 wash plant

TWS AggWash 300

Open day event at NRS Aggregate’s Woodcote Wood Quarry attracts over 500 visitors including dealers and customers

EARLIER this month, Terex Washing Systems (TWS) hosted the first of a series of open days showcasing their aggregate processing equipment on site.

Held at Woodcote Wood Quarry in Shifnal, near Telford, Shropshire, the two-day event – which was organized in conjunction with DUO Group and NRS Aggregates Ltd – attracted more than 500 visitors, including TWS/DUO dealers and their customers, who had the opportunity to see the new TWS AggWash 300 wash plant in operation.

Referred to as a ‘game-changer in wash recycling’, the high-performance AggWash 300 brings together screening, scrubbing, sizing and sand washing capabilities on a single modular chassis. Capable of throughputs up to 300 tonnes/h, the plant can produce up to four aggregate products and two grades of saleable sand.

‘We were absolutely delighted to welcome so many customers and dealers to the recent open day,’ said Andrew Smyth, external projects manager for TWS. ‘But it comes as no surprise because sustainability is now a core objective in the construction materials sector. And the AggWash system has been designed to address higher production requirements for recycling firms and quarry operators, especially in the construction and demolition waste market.’

Mr Smyth added that while the plant’s readily portable format makes it particularly suitable for greenfield applications, contractor use and temporary planning permission sites, operators more used to static installations can benefit from the AggWash 300 unit’s small footprint and minimal site preparations.

For NRS Aggregates’ Woodcote Wood Quarry, the AggWash 300 system represents a substantial investment and will provide a local source of high-grade recycled aggregate/sand products all year round to improve the efficiency and environmental performance of regional construction and civil engineering developments across the West Midlands region.

The AggWash 300 features two 4.9m x 1.5m (16ft x 5ft) triple-deck Terex Cedarapids LJ-TS Series horizontal screens, incorporating a triple-shaft vibrator mechanism that provides high g-force along with efficient oval motion.

The wash plant also boasts a high-capacity log-washer that scrubs the gravel fraction and floats out organics and adhered contaminants, while a 2.5m x 1.2m (8ft x 4ft) trash screen carries out dewatering of lightweight contaminants from the log-washer.

In addition, the AggWash 300 incorporates an integrated sand plant (19 cubic-metre capacity) with rubber-lined pumps and hydrocyclones. For ease of servicing and maintenance, the wash system features class-leading walk-around access to the plant’s key components, particularly the screens.

TWS also used the dealer and customer open day event at Woodcote Wood Quarry to showcase their Terex Aquaclear water-management offerings, including rake thickeners, forming part of the AggWash 300 wash plant. Aquaclear thickeners are designed specifically to deal with high volumes of slurry, producing sludge with 30–40% solids content.

Other Aquaclear water-management solutions included: a flocculent-dosing plant and thickener tank that can be used to recycle up to 80% of the water used in the washing process; and a high-performance side-beam filter press specially developed for aggregate and recycling applications.
