Two new Hitachi excavators for Hanson UK

Hitachi ZX890LCR-6 excavator

Pair of 90-tonne ZX890LCR-6 machines join the fleet at Shap Beck and Chipping Sodbury

HANSON Aggregates have recently added two brand new Hitachi ZX890LCR-6 excavators to their fleet at Shap Beck Quarry, in Cumbria, and Chipping Sodbury Quarry, in South Gloucestershire.

The two machines were part of a package of 16 awarded to Hitachi Construction Machinery (UK) following a successful tender process in 2018, which also includes four ZX690LCR-6 excavators and several wheel loaders.

After a 90-tonne Hitachi machine was moved from another Hanson quarry to Chipping Sodbury for a trial, the team quickly chose to invest in a brand-new machine for the operations at that site.

Meanwhile, at Shap, Hanson’s 2007 Hitachi ZX870LCR-5 had clocked up 23,000h, so the team decided it was time to replace the trusty machine with the latest model in its weight class – the ZX890LCR-6.

Gary Morgan of Hanson UK commented: ‘These excavators will provide improvements in reliability and their procurement reflects our ongoing investment in plant and machinery to enhance efficiency.’

Mark Turnham, director of mines and quarries at Hitachi Construction Machinery (UK), said: ‘Once again, we are delighted that Hanson have chosen to purchase Hitachi equipment for use in their quarries across the UK.

‘Since the first machines were delivered back in 2007, Hitachi have forged a close relationship with Hanson, built upon the productivity and reliability of their product.’
