Top restoration award for MQP

MIDLAND Quarry Products have been awarded a Restoration Award from the Quarry Products Association for their outstanding restoration to agricultural and tree belt land at Cliffe Hill Quarry in Leicestershire.

Cliffe Hill has replaced some 11 million m3 of overburden in the last 10 years, with 97 acres of land being restored to agriculture. Lying within the boundaries of the National Forest, this year will also see the completion of a tree-planting programme involving some 50,000 trees.

The judges report for Cliffe Hill particularly commended the complete screening of the entire operation, which covers some 250ha, together with the initiatives taken to involve the local community, such as the creation of a viewing platform on a public footpath adjacent to the site.
