Top prize for Toptrec

TARMAC's Toptrec recycled pathway aggregate has scooped the title of 'Recycled Product of the Year' in this year's National Recycling Awards. Made from selected waste products from highway reconstruction and maintenance works, Toptrec was launched in 1999 in response to customer enquiries for an environmentally friendly alternative to quarried stone for footpaths, cycleways and bridle paths. The 100% recycled material is said to perform at least as well as quarried materials with good binding and compaction properties and a durable finish.

Tarmac Recycling's development manager, Peter Robinson, said: 'Toptrec demonstrates the importance of focusing on customer needs and finding enhanced ways of meeting them. We are delighted that our efforts have been recognized and we will continue to campaign for more widespread use of recycled and secondary materials in line with the Government's drive towards sustainable construction.'

The National Recycling Awards seek to promote waste reduction, reuse, recycling, composting and the use of recycled materials, rewarding and celebrating both sustainable waste-management practices and the minimization of waste impacts.
