Tarmac win industry customer services award

TARMAC have won the Mineral Product Association/British Ready-mixed Concrete Association’s (MPA/BRMCA) 2010 ‘Excellence in Customer Service Award’, which recognizes those ready-mixed concrete companies who have gone the extra mile in providing an efficient and professional service.

The company won the award for the supply of concrete for the slipforming of the silo base and walls for a new biomass rail-unloading and storage facility at Drax Power Station, in North Yorkshire.

Deliveries for the slipform process took place over two five-day periods, during which a constant 15–18 cubic metres per hour supply was necessary. This required a day and night shift operation for production, transport and technical personnel. Due allowance also had to be made for changing weather conditions and subsequent variations in ambient temperatures.

Working closely with main contactors Spencer, Tarmac ensured that the slipform operation was completed successfully on time, without a single load being rejected for non-compliance with the specified slump value.

Commenting on Tarmac’s award, the judges said: ‘This project exemplifies the customer service that the BRMCA members provide. The constant, reliable and dependable service for two five-day continuous slipform projects, overcoming changing conditions, makes Tarmac this year’s winner.’
