Company appointed as lead partner of biennial conference in celebratory year for national parks organization

YESTERDAY (Tuesday 17 September) saw the start of the UK National Parks Conference, a biennial event that brings together the key decision-makers from across the UK’s 15 national parks.

The three-day conference is being hosted by the Yorkshire Dales National Park authority and supported by lead partner Tarmac.

With 2019 being the 70th anniversary year of the 1949 National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, the conference will celebrate the history of national parks across the UK. It will also look to the future through the theme of ‘new horizons.’

Stuart Wykes, director of land and natural resources at Tarmac, said: ‘We’re proud to be sponsors of this year’s conference, especially in this celebratory year for the national parks organization.

‘As a custodian of land across the UK, including within national parks, close collaboration and support with both with authorities and with local communities is really important to us. We’re looking forward to meeting with delegates and sharing our shared experiences and best practice with visitors to the conference.’

David Butterworth, chief executive officer of Yorkshire Dales National Park, added: ‘We are delighted with Tarmac’s key support of this year’s biennial conference, which will see delegates from across the UK debate, plan and share best practice for the future of the national parks.’

With some 100 delegates in attendance, including chairs and chief executive officers of the national parks, representatives from Government and other agencies, the conference will conclude on Thursday 19 September.
