Tarmac highlight the benefits of learning at work

Company continues its commitment to employee development during Learning at Work Week 2018

TARMAC are continuing their ongoing commitment to building skills and employee development by taking part in Learning at Work Week 2018 (14–20 May), the annual campaign which focuses on the importance and benefits of learning and development in the workplace.

The company is highlighting the learning and development resources that are available to its more than 7,000 employees, which are there to help and support them in developing and progressing their careers. Each day of the week will be dedicated to a different resource/tool to remind employees of what facilities are available and the benefits of utilizing them.

Peter Kay, Tarmac’s head of learning and development, said: ‘Learning at Work Week is a brilliant opportunity to remind each other of the great facilities, services and partnerships we have to help our colleagues develop skills, progress careers and achieve their full potential.

‘We’re very ambitious when it comes to personal development and take pride in offering employees the best services available to help them develop key skills, build knowledge and embed learning into the workplace.’

Tarmac employees have access to a range of materials and services, including mentoring programmes, online learning tools and external partnerships with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), MindTools and the Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC).

These key partnerships deliver CMI-accredited leadership programmes and MPQC qualifications and awards that are essential to career progression.

Mr Kay added: ‘In addition to the ongoing development programmes, we hold a number of events, including the Future Leaders conference held earlier this year, which was a great example of this. Graduates, apprentices and higher apprentices took part in two days of  workshops and worked with senior managers and our leadership team, including Tarmac’s senior-vice president, Martin Riley, to share ideas and discuss their approach to a range of business challenges and opportunities.

‘Our Employee Development Programmes are also currently ongoing, which is brilliant to see. Colleagues from different areas and levels of seniority across Tarmac work together in small groups and are given resources to identify and address ideas that will help our business and our customers.’

Learning at Work Week is an annual event held in May and has been organized by the Campaign for Learning since 1999.
