HRH the Prince of Wales visits Mountsorrel and Rothley Community Heritage Centre

HIS Royal Highness the Prince of Wales recently paid a visit to the Mountsorrel and Rothley Community Heritage Centre (MARCH), where he met volunteers and businesses that have helped to create the centre and restore the Mountsorrel Railway.

Tarmac, the largest donors to the project, having contributed a total of £754,336 over three years via the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), were one of the local companies who met with the Prince.

In addition to supporting the project through the LCF, Tarmac also donated a range of construction materials and provided professional advice during certain phases of the project. A significant number of Tarmac employees have also volunteered on the project.

Trevor Warren, major projects and community liaison manager for Tarmac, who is based at Mountsorrel Quarry, said: ‘It was fantastic to meet His Royal Highness to show how we’re supporting communities around our sites and helping this project to protect the region’s cultural heritage.

‘The volunteers at the Heritage Centre have done an outstanding job and I was immensely proud to attend the event on behalf of Tarmac.’

Steve Cramp, chief executive officer for MARCH, added: ‘We never thought when we started the work that the Prince of Wales would want to come and see the project when it was completed, and all of the volunteers were greatly honoured to find that His Royal Highness was so interested in what we have created.

‘None of this would have been possible were it not for the help of Tarmac, who have supported us all the way, and we are very grateful to them for the faith they showed in us.’
