Tarmac awarded first HAPAS certificate for thin surfacings

TARMAC have been awarded the first ever thin-surfacings HAPAS certificate for their Masterflex systems.

"Set up by the Highways Agency and the British Board of Agrement (BBA), in conjunction with the County Surveyors’ Society, the Highways Authorities Product Approval Scheme (HAPAS) means highways engineers can specify certified products and services safe in the knowledge that they meet the exacting quality requirements of the BBA."

"Tarmac’s certificate was awarded following a two-year period during which the company provided wide-ranging, in-depth data to the BBA. The certificate covers two systems: Masterflex, which is supplied and laid by Tarmac; and Masterphalt P, a similar system which is laid by approved independent surfacing contractors."

"Commenting on the award, Tarmac’s technical service manager, Colin Loveday, said: ‘To be the first to achieve this award reflects Tarmac’s position within the industry. We have a responsibility to strive towards higher standards in order to provide our customers and contractors with the best solutions, and to lead the industry into the future by embracing new initiatives such as HAPAS."

"‘Producing and compiling such data along with organizing independent evaluation of our sites has cost us over £30,000 per product, but it’s definitely worth paying when you consider that the Highways Agency and, increasingly, local authorities commit themselves to using only HAPAS-approved proprietary systems.’"
