Tarmac appoint new sustainability manager

TARMAC are building on their commitment to sustainability with the appointment of Craig Du Plessis as the company’s new sustainability manager.

Reporting to head of sustainability Dr Martyn Kenny and working across Tarmac’s quarrying business, Mr Du Plessis will help to further embed the company’s new sustainability framework throughout the whole organization, as well as manage existing and new projects.

He joins Tarmac from Caterpillar, where he was environmental manager. Prior to this he held managerial and specialist environmental, health and safety roles at Kimberly Clark and BMW.

Mr Du Plessis will focus specifically on Tarmac’s carbon footprint, conducting various sustainability reporting and legal and industry guidance compliance with a view to reducing emissions, increasing the efficiency of waste and water management and, ultimately, improving the sustainability of Tarmac’s products and services.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Du Plessis said: It’s an exciting time to be joining Tarmac. Sustainability is a key focus for the business and wider industry, whether reducing emissions, minimizing waste or contributing to social improvement.

‘As a leader in our field, our customers rely on us to understand the key sustainability-related issues and legislation, to allow them to meet the challenges they face. It’s important that we have the right processes and hard targets in place to allow us further embed sustainability throughout our business, while ensuring that we continue to provide customers with the most sustainable products and services we can.’
