Sykes Pumps win Tarmac sole-supplier deal

SYKES Pumps have been awarded a three-year sole-supplier contract for the provision of pumps to Tarmac’s UK quarry sites in a deal worth up to £1.2 million.

The new contract follows a decision by Tarmac Aggregates to exclude pump procurement from their single-source supplier policy, allowing them to gain direct access to Sykes Pumps’ expertise and technical support.

The 24-month contract, with an option to extend for a further year, will see Sykes providing drainage pumps for all of Tarmac’s UK aggregate quarries and sand and gravel pits, which produce around 42 million tonnes of aggregates per annum.

Charles Van Blerk, national accounts manager at Sykes Pumps, explained: ‘We have a long-standing relationship with Tarmac and have been supplying pumps to them for several years, latterly through their single-source suppliers Hewden and GE Capital. However, many of their site managers were coming direct to us to access our knowledge in specifying the best pump for individual scenarios and our troubleshooting advice on technical issues.

‘As a result, Tarmac have chosen to exclude pumps from their single-source supplier contracts and awarded a sole supply contract for pumps for the first time. We already have a good relationship with the company at site level and this new agreement will allow us to build on that as we complete site surveys to determine their pumping needs.’
