Stone for memorial walk

An Ingersoll-Rand P600 portable compressor purchased by Burlington has helped to quarry stone for the new Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Walk in London. Burlington have supplied stone for the commemorative plaques that will line the seven-mile long walk as it passes through four of central London's royal parks - Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Green Park and St James's Park.

The compressor is one of three new P600 models purchased for use in Burlington's quarries in the Lake District including Broughton Moor, where the stone for the memorial walk is being quarried. The compressors power drill rigs, including an Ingersoll-Rand LM100 model, which drill holes in the rock through which a diamond-wire cutter is threaded to cut slabs of stone away from the face.

For the memorial walk, Burlington have produced circular tablets of Broughton Moor mid-green natural stone, each of which will create a 'corona' radiating from around a smaller cast bronze plaque which will feature an etched stainless steel inset rose. Embedded into the walk's pathway, the plaque's natural stone outer ring will be hand-carved with inscriptions that point out en-route landmarks.
