Sheehan Group share success story at US recycling conference

Recycling conference

Company delivers diversification talk at C&D World Conference in New York

LAST month the Sheehan Group delivered a presentation to leading American experts in the construction, demolition and waste-recycling sectors at the annual Construction & Demolition Recycling Association (CDRA) conference, held in Brooklyn, New York.

More than 270 delegates attended the event which covered a number of key topics; most notably the market status of industry materials, including asphalt shingles, recycled concrete and gypsum.

Oxfordshire-based Sheehan Group was the only UK-based company to speak at the major event, where Tara and Katie Sheehan gave a presentation on how the family-run business has diversified in the construction and waste-recycling industry since it was founded in 1974.

Tara Sheehan, finance director of Sheehan Group said: ‘We’re proud to have been invited to speak at such a respected international conference in our industry. It was a pleasure to share our diversification story and best practices with other businesses.’

Katie Sheehan, head of sales at Sheehan Group, added: ‘Our diversification strategy is a long-term model and while we have a long way to go it was good to share our story and learn from other likeminded businesses. It’s vital that more and more businesses in the construction industry join the sustainability in construction movement for the longevity of the planet.’

Sheehan Group’s strategy of renewing and reusing materials has established longevity and sustainable profits for the future of the business. The process started with an investment in a CDE Global C&D washing plant, which incorporates the latest wet-processing methods to recycle waste materials to create a range of certified sand and aggregates used in concrete products.

According to the recycling firm, the CDE water-treatment facility – in its first six years of operation – diverted 600,000 tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste from landfill, by reprocessing it into recycled aggregates. Half of the reusable material is used in the company’s own construction projects while the rest is sold to contractors.
