Selwood invest £7 million in new equipment

Plant hire firm expands fleet of pumps and machinery to reinforce its market position within the rental fleet sector

AS part of a major investment programme, Selwood have placed fleet orders worth in excess of £7 million on new plant and pump products to strengthen their already sizeable hire fleet. Around £3 million has been invested in the company’s own range of Selwood pumps, including the Super Silent units specially designed for applications in noise-sensitive areas.

Included in the order are: mini-excavators, breakers and rollers worth £1.4 million from Ammann; Thwaites dumpers; and Hyundai excavators.

The aim of the fleet expansion programme is to increase efficiency and capacity at Selwood’s existing manufacturing facility, near Southampton. Improved procurement and greater stockholding will allow for standard products to benefit from shorter lead times, which are increasingly being required in the plant hire marketplace.

Commenting on the hire fleet investment, Richard Brown, sales director for Selwood, said: ‘Although this is a large investment in a short space of time, it is important that we continue to increase and update our fleet to meet customer expectations. This year has begun well for us and this fleet investment is essential for the company to maintain its growth.’
