SAMSA joins QPA

SAMSA, the Silica and Moulding Sands Association, has joined forces with the Quarry Products Association. Representing 90% of silica and moulding sand production in the UK, SAMSA will now join the Agricultural Lime Association, the British Lime Association, the British Marine Aggregates Producers Association and the Mortar Industries Association as a constituent body of the QPA.

Commenting on the move, QPA director general Simon van der Byl said: 'We are delighted that SAMSA is joining the QPA; this move will unite two associations with many common interests and will strengthen our position as the leading voice of the UK quarrying industry.'

Dr John Sibson, director of SAMSA, added: 'This very positive step forward will deliver the best of both worlds for SAMSA members. We encounter many of the same issues as the QPA's aggregates producers and this partnership will provide synergy in many areas of our activities, while retaining a specialist and enhanced focus on governmental consultation, promotion and technical support for industrial silica sand.

'The SAMSA name will live on within the QPA structure and will continue to stand for an industry which provides a unique and essential product for British manufacturing,' he said.
