Rowing the Thames for charity

Selwood’s South East sales team complete canoe trek along the river Thames

Congratulations to Selwood’s South East sales team of John Lovell, Paul Mann, Cliff Maddocks, Peter King and James Sinnock for successfully completing their 100 mile canoe trek along the river Thames.

The five had endured several months of arduous training before attempting the planned four-night five-day event. They camped each night alongside the Thames before starting off early in the morning. Unfortunately the weather was unkind to the five on the first day and all were frozen and soaked through by the end of it. However, the sun shone for the remainder of their trip and all arrived well tanned but totally exhausted at their final destination, Old Windsor Lock, five days after starting out.

They raised over £6,200 for charity but it is just part of a bigger picture as the company intends to raise a total of £65,000. This is Selwood’s 65th year in business and the company has set itself the challenge of raising £65,000 to benefit UK cancer charities. To support this, several initiatives are being undertaken and, apart from the canoeing, a golf day has been held, a marathon run and a New Forest bike ride is planned. The climax, however, is when a party of 10 climbs Mount Kilimanjaro in September.
