RMC appoint new group chief executive

"RMC Group plc have announced the appointment of David Munro as the company’s new group chief executive. He will take up his appointment on 19 January 2004, succeeding Stuart Walker, the present incumbent, who retires on 28 January 2004 but will remain as an adviser to the board until the Group’s AGM in April."

"David Munro has a mining engineering background and is currently the chief development officer of BHP Billiton. Prior to Billiton’s merger with BHP in 2001, Mr Munro was the main board director responsible for Billiton’s global aluminium and base metals business. Before 1997 he held a number of senior roles taking charge of the Group’s brokerage, exploration, technology and development activities."

"Together with Brian Gilbertson and his Billiton executive colleagues, Mr Munro is widely credited with the 10-year transformation of the number-two South African mining house into the world’s largest diversified resources company."

"Commenting on Mr Munro’s new appointment, RMC chairman Sir John Parker said: ‘We are pleased to have attracted someone of David’s calibre and we are looking forward to working with him to achieve RMC’s strategic objectives. He has an outstanding track record of leading and building value in major industrial companies as well as extensive international operational and trading experience.’"
