Risa AS ramp up Doosan articulated dumptruck fleet

Doosan DA30-5 articulated dumptruck

Norwegian construction firm to quadruple size of its Doosan ADT fleet with more DA30-5 trucks

RISA AS, one of Norway’s largest construction contractors, have strengthened their fleet of Doosan articulated dumptrucks (ADTs) with a new order for seven DA30-5 machines. Askim-based Rosendal Maskin AS, the Doosan and Bobcat dealers for Norway, will supply the latest Stage IV ADTs.

Risa purchased their first DA30-5 in 2014 and, following successful tests of its performance against other construction equipment the company was using at the time, another two DA30-5 units were acquired and delivered in spring 2015.

This year Risa have taken delivery of two more DA30-5 ADTs, which arrived at the end of June. The contractor’s recent order for seven more units will bring the total number of DA30-5s in the company’s fleet to 12. Risa have also purchased five new Bobcat mini-excavators from Rosendal.

Jan Roger Lindseth, sales support manager at Doosan’s Norwegian manufacturing plant in Molde, said: ‘We are delighted by the commitment provided by Doosan Bobcat EMEA and the role of our dealer, Rosendal, in winning back market share in Norway and elsewhere in Europe.

‘It is of course very satisfying that we have the big contractors coming back to us to place new investment after testing out our new-generation machines. The excellent service, uptime and low operational costs which we offer ensure that these companies continue to purchase their products from Doosan.’

Like all of Doosan’s new Stage IV/Tier 4 Final machines, the company says the design of the DA30-5 ADT goes beyond just meeting the latest emission standards and incorporates many additional features and product improvements to establish a new benchmark in performance, fuel efficiency, controllability and operator comfort, together with improved reliability, durability and reduced maintenance and servicing costs.

Doosan say the ‘best-in-class’ fuel consumption of their ADTs is down to a combination of features, including a new Scania diesel engine and ZF EP transmission that improves the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels for superior traction.

They add that when this is coupled with the enhanced rear differential system, which reduces engine rev/min and further increases machine durability, customers can achieve improved cost-per-tonne with their Doosan trucks.

Specially designed for ADTs, the ZF EP countershaft transmission offers eight forward speeds (top speed of 34 miles/h) and four reverse speeds.

In the DA30-5, the front differential is mounted directly on to the transmission, so there is no driveline that needs greasing and the overall length of the machine is reduced for better weight distribution and a tighter turning circle.

With smaller, equal gear steps between gears, and a higher overall gear spread, the transmission works optimally with the engine for better fuel efficiency.

The DA30-5 machine is powered by a 370hp Scania DC9 diesel engine that meets the Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emission regulations through the use of both selective catalytic reduction and exhaust gas recirculation technologies, with an electronic engine brake system (one of four brake systems on the trucks).

As with all Doosan ADTs, the truck features an articulation hinge positioned behind the turning ring to provide equal weight distribution to the front axle even during maximum steer articulation.

This, together with a free-swinging rear tandem bogie, ensures equal distribution of weight to each wheel and delivers permanent six-wheel contact and drive for equal power distribution and optimum performance on difficult terrain.
