Remondis acquire JBT

Waste and recycling multinational takes over Newcastle upon Tyne-based JBT

REMONDIS, one of the world’s leading waste-management specialists, have announced the acquisition of family-owned JBT. The Newcastle recycling firm is no stranger to the UK sector, having been listed in the top 50 North East Business Awards, as well as receiving recognition for being among the fastest growing companies in the waste-management industry.

From their two sites in Bedlington and Birtley – north and south of the River Tyne – JBT provide a wide range of waste-management services including: waste collection; refuse-derived fuel processing; and aggregates recycling to more than 500 customers.

In recent years, the company has experienced rapid growth and now processes some 220,000 tonnes of waste per annum with around 150 employees. Both Remondis and JBC have agreed not to disclose the financial details of the acquisition.

John Binks, CEO and founding shareholder of JBT, commented: ‘In spite of its impressive scale, the family-owned structure of the Remondis Group and the mindset of its workforce are based on very similar philosophies to our own.

‘This is why we believe that Remondis are a natural fit for JBT and our employees, and a strong partner to further diversify our activities and develop the business as a whole.’
