Recycling superhero helps pupils learn about sustainability

Tara Sheehan

Sheehan Group teach pupils from local school value of recycling through children’s book and activity workshop

SCHOOLCHILDREN at West Kidlington Primary, in Oxon, learnt about the importance of sustainable living, thanks to a superhero story created by recycling and aggregates company the Sheehan Group.

The children were treated to a special reading of the story of ‘Captain Envirotron and the battle to save planet earth’, by its author Tara Sheehan, finance director of Sheehan Group.

Tara wrote the children’s book to educate youngsters on the value of recycling and the Sheehan Group have donated copies to several school libraries across Oxfordshire. In the eye-catching book Captain Envirotron teaches his friends of the importance of recycling waste to save the earth’s resources for the children of tomorrow.

As part of the visit to West Kidlington Primary School, pupils also took part in a recycling drawing activity workshop and one lucky pupil will see their sketch placed on the Sheehan Group’s fleet of vehicles to further promote green living. Runners-up will also receive book vouchers and each pupil who took part was also presented with a copy of the book.

Tara said: ‘Recycling and sustainable construction is at the heart of the Sheehan Group’s ethos. It’s important now and for future generations and it’s been great fun sharing our passion and knowledge with local schoolchildren. Hopefully, the book will help spark an interest in recycling among children and their parents in the county.’

Joanne Simpson, assistant principle of West Kidlington School, commented: ‘We are so thankful to the Sheehan Group for delivering such an inspirational talk and engaging story on recycling to our pupils. The school strives to provide a nurturing learning environment and having such rewarding visits from the local community is invaluable. The school shares the Sheehan Group’s passion for recycling and it is fantastic to see our pupils really embracing it.’
