Recycle Southern opt for JCB equipment

JCB JS131 Plus excavator

Waste firm strengthens mobile plant fleet with new addition of JS131 Plus tracked excavator

RECYCLE Southern are continuing to add high-quality earthmoving machinery to their plant portfolio, following the purchase of a new JCB JS131 LC Plus excavator. The machine is currently in use at the company’s Elbridge Farm waste transfer centre in Bognor Regis, where it is handling and sorting inert and skip waste.

Fully compliant, and regulated by the Environment Agency, the recycling centre – located just off the A259 between Chichester and Bognor – is said to be one of very few sites near the South Coast that is permitted to screen and crush inert material, as well as treating domestic, commercial and construction waste.

Garry Ayling, managing director of Recycle Southern, said: ‘We receive inert and skip waste from local building sites, which is sorted into different waste streams for crushing and screening. The soil is screened out to extract hardcore for crushing into secondary aggregates.’

According to JCB, the 13-tonne JS131 excavator is the only machine of its type on the market that does not require a diesel particulate filter, selective catalytic reduction system or AdBlue after-treatment, which helps to maximize uptime and deliver lowest cost-per-tonne production on site.

Powered by a 55kW engine, the excavator’s large glass area and low bonnet line provides greater visibility for the operator, while the 2GO system fully isolates hydraulic functions to avoid unintended machine movements.

It also ensures that the machine can only be started in a safe locked position via two separate inputs. Cabs are available with an integral roll-over protection structure (ROPS), while standard fitment mounting brackets help make it easy to fit JCB’s falling object guard structure (FOGS).

For increased safety and maintenance, steps and platforms have anti-slip punched steel plates for optimum grip, even in wet or icy conditions, and bolt-on plates have recessed bolts to reduce trip hazards. JCB’s safety level lock fully isolates hydraulic functions to avoid unintended movements.

Helping to further improve productivity, JCB’s own quick hitch system (purpose-designed for the JS range) makes attachment changing fast and easy.

Mr Ayling added: ‘The JS131 machine has reduced horsepower but a bigger hydraulic pump to compensate, which produces a quiet and efficient machine. We have a great relationship with JCB – all I have to do is pick up the phone to speak with an engineer at dealers Greenshields.’
