Ramora UK win new EOD contract with Kendall Bros

Explosive ordnance disposal firm wins new three-year contract with south coast aggregate producer

RAMORA UK, world-renowned providers of explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) training and support services, have signed a three-year deal with south-coast aggregate producers Kendall Brothers (Portsmouth) Ltd.

The contract will provide the aggregates firm with a comprehensive EOD response service (including ordnance disposal and training services) to deal with the discovery of unexploded ordnance (UXO) within their marine-dredged aggregate materials.

Following the introduction of best-practice guidance for dealing with munitions in marine aggregates, Kendall Brothers recognized the importance of ensuring the correct processes were in place and identified Ramora UK as a compliant and appropriate solution.

The aggregates firm originally contacted Ramora UK through their 24/7 Emergency Response line, when an item was discovered and identified as UXO. Advice was given and one of the Ramora UK’s EOD units dispatched.

As a result of that experience, Ramora UK experts established with Kendall Brothers policies and procedures which, in the event of further discoveries of UXO, will allow the most efficient and safest course of action to be taken with minimum impact on commercial operations.

Ramora UK, who are the only company in the country to offer this level of service (MoD comparable), say that whereas businesses have traditionally turned to the police in such situations, they are able to offer a rapid response focused on business needs and business continuity.

‘We are delighted to be continuing our work with Kendall Brothers (Portsmouth) Ltd for the next three years,’ said David Welch, managing director of Ramora UK. ‘They recognize the benefits in terms of safety, security and minimizing disruption to their operations from working with our specialist team of experts.’

Richard Kendall, managing director of Kendall Brothers, added: ‘We have the only purpose-built structure in the UK designed to permit the disposal of UXO on site without business interruption. Prior to the commencement of the Ramora UK solution and bunker construction, there would be prolonged periods of shutdown, along with the need for police attendance. There has been no shutdown or police attendance since Ramora UK commenced their service.’
