QPA/RTPI Annual Minerals Planning Conference

THE importance of climate change and the implications for minerals planning forms the theme of this year’s annual QPA/RTPI conference, which takes place on 26 April at the Dunstall Park Conference Centre at Wolverhampton Racecourse.

The event will begin with a keynote address on the links between current climate change issues and minerals planning by Tony Jupiter, executive director of Friends of the Earth. This will be followed by an in-depth look at the legal issues by Martin Kingston QC, and a CLG update from Lester Hicks CBE, head of minerals and waste with Communities and Local Government (CLG).

Other speakers will include: Dr Mark Avery, director of conservation with the RSPB; John Walker, chief executive of York Archaeological Trust; Andrew Bate, general manager for landfill and recycling with Lafarge; and Gordon Halliday, divisional director of consumer protection with the Planning and Waste Management department of Northumberland County Council.

The conference will be of interest to minerals planners in local regional and central government; minerals industry estates surveyors, planners and managers; countryside-related agencies; environmental bodies; and NGOs.

Attendance at the event will help delegates understand the implications of climate change for minerals planning; learn the latest thinking by government; understand the implications of MPS1; appreciate how the introduction of Planning Gain Supplements could impact on minerals; understand minerals planning for NGOs, receive and archaeological update; and gain an insight into all legal changes affecting the minerals industry.
