QPA focuses on Designing for Safety

THE Quarry Products Association (QPA), which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary, is the principal trade association representing the UK aggregates industry. In England, its members produce over 90% of the aggregates extracted, including sand, gravel and crushed rock, as well as other non-aggregate minerals such as silica sand, agricultural and industrial lime, clay and shale.

For the third Hillhead show in succession, the QPA will be sharing a marquee (Q10) with The Institute of Quarrying, where the two organizations will be jointly hosting an exhibition of technical developments and innovations that have led to improvements in the health and safety of the quarry industry workforce.

Prior to the show, all exhibitors were invited to participate in the ‘Designing for Safety’ competition. All submissions featuring developments that have contributed to towards the creation of a safer workplace received recognition from the judging panel, but two categories of ‘Highly Commended’ and ‘Merit’ were awarded to those who had addressed a particularly serious health and safety issue or demonstrated exceptional innovation or effort.

Visitors to the IQ/QPA stand will be able to see several of the submissions in the form of visual display boards mounted around the walls of the marquee. In addition, highlights of the QPA’s tenth anniversary Showcase event and selected features from recent QPA Health and Safety Competitions will be shown on a ‘big screen’ using a continuous-loop DVD system.
