QPA Environmental Awards set new standard

THE results of this year’s Quarry Products Association’s annual Environmental awards Scheme have revealed the best overall standard since the scheme began six years ago. A total of 71 sites received Gold Awards, the scheme’s highest accolade, representing an 82% increase over last year’s total.

In addition, 64 sites received 5-star awards, 62 sites received 4-star status and a further 36 sites were awarded a 3-star rating.

Simon van der Byl, director general of the QPA, said: ‘The QPA’s Award Scheme is designed to allow quarries to benchmark their environmental performance and it is a pleasure to see that this year’s results reveal another overall rise in standards.

‘In particular, the high level of Gold Awards attained this year must resonate clearly with the industry’s detractors. Here is real evidence that not only is the aggregates industry achieving excellent environmental standards, it is achieving them consistently.’
