Powerscreen plant for Crushing & Screening Services

Crushing & Screening Services, part of The Raymond Brown Group, have been in operation for the past 10 years and have become well established nationally in the aggregate extraction and recycling industries. Equipment available for hire from the group includes crushing and screening plant, excavators, loading shovels and ADTs, allowing the company to provide a total capability in the handling and processing of both virgin and secondary aggregates, as well as recyclables from waste raw materials.

Most of the company’s mobile screening plants are Powerscreen units and the inventory includes Warriors, Trommels, Commanders and ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ Chieftains, as well Finesmasters for sand production, log-washers for treating inert C&D waste, and a range of Powerscreen conveyors. All the equipment is offered with trained operators for short-term hire or fixed-term contract work throughout the UK.

Crushing & Screening Services have recently taken delivery of a new Chieftain 1400 mobile screening plant from appointed Powerscreen distributors Blue Machinery plc. Mounted on a heavy-duty crawler undercarriage and featuring hydraulically folding conveyors, the machine is easily transportable, highly manoeuvrable on site and designed for high-volume processing and stockpiling of aggregates, overburden, coal, crushed stone and demolition debris (up to 500 tonnes/h, depending on feed material and screen size).

The large-size feed hopper has a radio-controlled, angle-adjustable tipping grid and an optional vibrating grizzly to aid the separation process. The screen unit has a rubber-mounted outer bearing system that reduces the need for regular fine-tuning of the four-bearing box. Additionally, Powerscreen’s patented design for the top deck allows quick and economical replacement of the high-wear section only, this being side-tensioned, with the remainder of the screen being end-tensioned.

All the conveyors offer variable-speed capability and feature belt scrapers and heavy-duty three-ply belts, while the folding side conveyors allow complete access to the power unit for easy maintenance.

For general transport, the Chieftain 1400 can be reduced to compact, low-profile dimensions for road travel. On site, the crawler undercarriage with 500mm trackpads can achieve a travel speed of 0.87km/h and, once in position, set-up time is typically around 15min.

Crushing & Screening’s Mark Isaac commented: ‘We are very pleased with our new Chieftain plant and we’ve enjoyed a long and fruitful association with Powerscreen and their distributors Blue Machinery. We like the equipment’s reliability and Blue Machinery’s after-sales back-up is good.’
