Parkway Recycling choose OilQuick automatic quick-coupler system

OilQuick quick-coupler system

Company fits OilQuick units to its excavator fleet for increased safety and productivity

BIRMINGHAM-based Parkway Recycling run a recycling operation located just off the M6, processing previously used construction concrete, hardcore, brick and utility arisings.

Each year up to 300,000 tonnes of waste material make their way to the company’s recycling centre and Parkway Recycling have decided to invest in the OilQuick automatic quick-coupler system (available from ECY Haulmark), which allows hydraulic work tools to be connected/disconnected directly from the operator cab; increasing safety, productivity and profitability.

The recycling operator’s equipment fleet is being specified with the OilQuick units, including on a Volvo EC250 EL tracked excavator while another quick-coupler, currently on order, will be fitted to a machine in service.

The quick-coupler system is regarded as one of the safest on the market; while work tools are changed and coupled automatically, the operator does not have to get down from the cab. It is, therefore, favoured by many demolition contractors and is not generally associated with use in recycling facilities.

However, Paul McGowan, owner of Parkway Recycling, said he saw real potential of installing the OilQuick system and it would be advantageous for the company to invest in the quick-coupler.

‘We use a variety of hydraulic attachments on our excavators to process incoming waste before it is crushed. Typically, it would take 20 to 30 minutes for the operator to manually take off the breaker and replace with the magnet,’ commented Mr McGowan. ‘The OilQuick system permits hydraulic work tools to be changed automatically by the operator from inside the cab in as little as 15 to 20 seconds.’

Mr McGowan went on to say he has been delighted with the OilQuick automatic quick-couplers; utilizing these units have led to more efficiency and productivity across Parkway Recycling’s site on the M6, ensuring their excavators always have the right attachments (eg VTN FP24 concrete processors, Furukawa breakers) for the job.
