One of a kind for Evans Bros

Three new Foden Alpha tippers have recently joined the fleet of South Wales-operator Evans Bros, including a bespoke-specification tipper that Evans Bros believe to be the only one of its kind in the area.

In the livery of Hanson Aggregates, their latest Foden Alpha is a 6x4 drawbar tipper that is used on a range of operations from Hanson’s quarry in Merthyr Tydfil. The drawbar configuration was chosen to maximize operational flexibility and productivity. Operating with the trailer, the drawbar combination has a payload of 28 tonnes, yet the two short tipper bodies are more stable when tipping than an equivalent artic. Manoeuvrability is good and for deliveries in tight areas and small drops the trailer can be left back at base.

Anticipated to be covering in excess of 100,000km a year on a six-year contract, the drawbar configuration carries a 14-tonne payload in the prime mover tipper body and a further 14-tonne payload in the trailer body. Both bodies have CCTV cameras installed for operational safety. One camera is located inside each body to monitor loading, while a further camera is mounted on the rear of the prime mover for reversing and hitching to the second trailer. A fourth camera is located to the rear of the second trailer to facilitate reversing on site.
