New Volvo wheel loader for Marshalls

Volvo L150G wheel loader

Natural stone supplier takes delivery of new L150G loader for handling stone blocks at Cromwell Works

MARSHALLS, producers of premium natural stone products, have purchased a new Volvo L150G wheel loader for handling stone blocks (weighing up to 18 tonnes) at their Cromwell Works, in Halifax.

To fulfil duties such as sorting, stacking and feeding the cutting shop, the loader is equipped with a hydraulic quick-fit system, a set of bespoke heavy-duty block handling forks, an additional set of conventional pallet forks and a 4.2-cubic metre rehandling bucket.

In order to cope with typical weights and size of blocks, further counterweight has been added and the L150G runs on Michelin L5 XLDD2A tyres. ‘Although we operate Volvo shovels at other locations, this is the first time we’ve had one here at Cromwell,’ said production manager, Nigel Buchan. ‘So far the machine is doing everything that we want it to and our operators are pleased with the level of comfort in the cab and the performance of the machine.’

The L150G is powered by a 13-litre Stage IIIB-compliant engine (300hp) and features Optishift transmission and axles designed and manufactured by Volvo. The machine offers a 20% increase in lifting force and 10% rise in breakout force over its predecessor.

A new hydraulic cooling system has also been provided to reduce the working temperatures by up to 20 degrees Celsius over the F-Series model. In addition, fuel savings are increased through Volvo’s Eco pedal, which encourages the operator to run the wheel loader at its optimum rev/min within the engine’s torque curve.
