New MD for DB Schenker Energy segment

DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd, Britain’s largest rail freight operators, have appointed Jonathan Moser as managing director of their Energy segment, the dedicated supplier of freight trains to the UK electricity supply industry.

Mr Moser, who was previously deputy managing director of the Energy segment, takes over from Paul Bates, who retired from the company on 12 February 2010.

Mr Moser joined DB Schenker in December 2008 with a remit to support the strategic development of the company’s coal business. He joined the firm from First GBRf, where he was business development director, and has over a decade of experience in the coal sector having also been head of coal trading at Cargill International and coal supply manager for TXU.

Commenting on his new appointment, Mr Moser, said: ‘The Energy segment was launched in 2006 under the leadership of Paul Bates. Since its inception Energy has significantly reduced its cost base and at the same time dramatically improved reliability and customer service, leading to major contract wins in a highly competitive market.’

Thanking Paul Bates for his contribution to DB Schenker, Mr Moser continued: ‘Paul led a great team at Energy, built with people who have experience of the electricity supply industry, not just the railway. I will take them forward to grow our business in new and existing markets, while continually improving the industry leading levels of customer service, reliability and safety that we already have.’
